Changes to the Curling Club
The DVCC has been struggling financially for a few years. This is due in part to a decline in membership, lack of fund raising opportunities, and lack of bonspiels held. But, it is also due to loss of revenue from non-curling function bookings (Xmas parties, etc.) Revenue from these types of bookings has been going to the Omniplex (Town of DV), however, revenue from the bar did continue to come to DVCC.
The DVCC Board met with Mayor Hamdon and Town Manager Deol in January 2009, requesting a decrease to our monthly lease payment. Over the ensuing months, the Board worked with Omniplex management to come up with a Lease that worked for both parties. In the meantime, an opportunity came upon DVCC to tie in to the Omniplex's new ice plant. The tie in costs would be extremely less than what it would cost to purchase a new ice plant. There was no question that this was the right thing to do.
The Omniplex was required to change its rules regarding liquor permits, and thus it was decided by the Town that the Omniplex would take over running Slider's Lounge. The DVCC was offered to lease only the ice surface and the locker area. This offer would definitely provide a decrease in our lease payments, but we would lose the revenue from the bar.
The DVCC Board has not formally accepted this lease agreement and are not in favor of all changes made by the Omniplex regarding Slider's Lounge. We continue to meet with the Omniplex, Mayor, and Council and hopefully will come to a satisfactory conclusion.
If there are any questions, please contact any Board member.

ICE PLANT FOR SALE
The DVCC has an ice plant for sale. The Omniplex Skating Rinks are installing a new Ice Plant that will operate three ice surfaces. The DVCC will be tie-ing into this new plant for the 2010-2011 season. The new plant is more environmentally-friendly and eventually we will experience lower utility costs due to this. The cost for this tie-in is approximately $68000.00. The curling club will be raising its fees starting with our 2010-2011 season in order to ensure the future of our operation.
